More than 1.7 million passengers rode the Capitol Corridor inter-city trains in the last year, breaking ridership and revenue records, officials said Monday.
Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority officials said discounts played a role. The train system, which runs from Auburn through Sacramento to the Bay Area, offered several deals in September, including Seniors Ride Half-Off several days a week, Kids Ride Free on Weekends, group discount travel and deals for professional sports events.
"We know that many folks calibrate their travel choices to what's in their wallet," marketing officer Priscilla Kalugdan said.
