Sacramento - Large gaming tribes from Inland Southern California reported more than $1.2 million in political spending from July through September, according to newly filed state reports.

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians near Temecula spent $703,000, most of it in the form of contributions to state lawmakers. The tribe sponsored an end-of-session bill meant to block a quarry near Temecula; a Senate committee shelved the measure.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians near San Bernardino spent almost $398,000 on campaign contributions. The tribe belongs to a coalition of gaming tribes and card clubs pushing legislation to legalize online gambling in the state.

The Legislature adjourned in September without acting on the bill to allow more time for negotiations. The Morongo Band of Mission Indians near Banning, another member of the California Online Poker Association, has not filed its campaign statement for the July-September reporting period.

Another Inland tribe, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, which operates two casinos in the Coachella Valley, reported $125,500 in political spending from July through September.
